Fire Station Open Day: on Saturday, September 15, 12.30-4.30pm.  This promises to be a fun day for all the family. The Fire Station is on Skipton Road.

Jumble sale: on Saturday, September 15 in St John’s Church Hall at 2pm.  Go along and pick up a bargain.

Services at St John’s: on Sunday, September 16 Holy Communion is at 8am and 10am.  At St Luke’s there will be Contemplative Holy Communion at 10.30am and Café Church at 4.30pm. Next week morning prayer is on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9-9.30am.  On Wednesday, September 19 Holy Communion takes place at 10.30am.

Bilton Area Methodist Lunch Club: has started again after the summer break.  The next opportunity to enjoy a good lunch for just £4 is on Tuesday, September 18. To find out more or book a place telephone Averil Makinson on 01423 506600.  The church is on Skipton Road though the main entrance and car park is at the rear off Bar Place.

Bilton Men’s Forum: is to be entertained with more wonderful photographs from Norman Oberheim on Tuesday, October 18 at Bilton Community Centre, 48 Bilton Lane.  Visitors and new members welcome.  Tea is served from 2pm and Norman will start at 2.30pm.

Bingo: at Dene Park Community Centre every Tuesday and Thursday, 1-4pm.  Enjoy bingo and have a cup of tea with biscuits.  Entrance 30p, bingo books extra.   The 2a bus stops at the door.

Escape Pain: at Bilton Health and Wellbeing Hub on Bilton Lane.  Two sessions of seven weeks start on Wednesday September 19, 1-2.30pm and Saturday, September 22, 11am-12,30pm. Cost £30 for the seven weeks.  This is suitable for anyone with arthritis suffering knee and hip pain.  Join a class, meet others and learn simple ways to better manage the pain through exercise tailored to your needs. Bilton WI: is having a cookery demonstration with Julia Clarke on Wednesday, September 19 at Bilton Community Centre, 7.30pm.  Visitors are welcome.  For more information telephone 01423 564978.

Thirst: is the weekly coffee morning held every Wednesday at Dene Park Community Centre, 10.30am-noon.  There is good coffee, good company and good cakes, also help with laptops, ipads and mobile phones for anyone who requires it.  This event is run by volunteers from St John’s and St Luke’s. All are welcome.  

Wellbeing Café: at St Luke’s every Thursday, 1-3pm.  Relax, find new friends, have a chat, join in with a craft activity, play some games and have some fun, as well as a fresh pot of tea, warm bowl of soup and cakes a plenty.  This event is run by St John’s and St Luke’s and supported by Dementia Forward.  Call in or telephone 07930 559921 or 07876 754327 for more information.  St Luke’s is in Franklin Square behind the original Kings Road church.

Harrogate Stitch and Craft Group: wins my unofficial competition to be the first group to mention Christmas in 2018.  It may seem that summer has not quite left us but for those who enjoy crafts preparations have to start early.  On Thursday, September 20 at Bilton Community Centre, 7.30pm the topic will be Christmas Trees with Jan.  Visitors welcome.  For more details telephone Pauline on 01423 507617.

Brigantes Lacemakers:  on Saturday, September 22 at Bilton Community Centre is a workshop on lace boxes.  Anyone wishing to find out more should contact the secretary by email buzzvicky1@outlook.com

Free computer course: at Bilton and Woodfield Community Library in partnership with My Neighbourhood starts on Tuesday, October 2, 1.30-3.30pm.  This is for beginners or those whose skills have become a little rusty.  Booking is essential.  To save a place either call into the library, telephone 01423 564630 or email info@biltonandwoodfield.org.uk  The library is on Woodfield Road on the same site as the school and Children’s Centre.  There is a car park.

Macmillan coffee mornings: on 28th September.  There is one at Bilton Health and Wellbeing Hub and more details will appear next week.  There are usually others that I find out about too late for inclusion in this column.  Please get in touch if you are organising an event for the Greatest Coffee Morning in the World so we can let people know about it.
