National Libraries Week: is this week. We are lucky to have a library in our locality. Nowadays libraries are not just books, though they are still very prominent. At Bilton and Woodfield Community Library on Woodfield Road there are 4 public use computers, free WIFI for your own device, a photocopier, coffee machine, second hand books and plants for sale, community notice board, weekly Storytime sessions for pre-school age children, reading groups, a scrabble club and several other special events and courses throughout the year. The library is on the same site as the school and is open Mondays, 1-7pm, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9.30am-5pm, Saturdays 9.30am-1pm. If you have not visited yet do along. The library is for everyone.

Coffee morning: at St John’s Church Hall on Saturday, October 14, 10am-noon. Entrance is £1 and includes drink and a biscuit. There will also be a raffle, tombola and cake and card stalls. All welcome. Raising money for Tearfund.

Harvest Festival: everyone is invited to celebrate harvest at St John’s on Sunday, September 15, 6.30pm at a Harvest Festival Evensong when the choirs of Pannal and Birstwith will join with St John’s own choir. Afterwards the donated flowers, garden produce and pot plants decorating the church will be taken to people who are housebound or recently bereaved. The Church also has a tradition of delivering dried and preserved goods to Springboard and Harrogate Homeless Hostel.

Other services: at St John’s on Sunday, October 15 Holy Communion is at 8am and morning worship, harvest and Tearfund at 10am. There will be reflective Holy Communion at St Luke’s, 10.30am and Café Church with Tearfund 4.30pm. Next week morning prayer is on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9-9.30am. On Wednesday, October 18 Holy Communion takes place at 10.30am.

Chat and craft: at Dene Park Community Centre every Monday, 2-4pm. The group is happy, friendly, enjoys crafting and supporting local charities. All are welcome regardless of ability. Just pop in and say hello. Admission £2 includes refreshments.

Bilton Men’s Forum: John Hargreaves is to give a slide presentation on the Yorkshire Luddites on Tuesday, October 17 at Bilton Community Centre, 48 Bilton Lane. Admission £2, new members welcome. Free tea is served from 2pm, the speaker commences at 2.30pm.

Bingo: at Dene Park Community Centre every Tuesday and Thursday between 1-4pm. Enjoy bingo, good conversation and a cup of tea with biscuits. Entrance 30p. Bingo Books extra. All welcome. The 2a bus stops at the door.

Bilton Area Methodist Lunch Club: next meets on Wednesday, October 18 to enjoy a really good meal for just £4. To find out more or book a place telephone Molly England on 01423 564986. Bilton Area Methodist Church is on Skipton Road with the main entrance and car park at the rear off Bar Place.

Bilton WI: on Wednesday, October 18 at Bilton Community Centre, 7.30pm Ann Kent is to give a presentation on sugarcraft. New members and visitors are welcome.

Harrogate Stitch and Craft Group: Christmas crafts with Judith is the programme for the meeting on Thursday, October 19 at Bilton Community Centre, 7.30pm. Yes, it is that time of year again when thoughts turn to preparations for Christmas. For anyone hoping to put their crafting skills to good use before then, now is the right time to start.
